Just yesterday morning, before my 10 year old’s standardized test, I caught myself automatically saying, “you’ll do fine! You’re so smart!”
I quickly amended it to, “you’re great at figuring out hard problems.”
Teaching kids not to shy away from the hard stuff takes intention. We need to be aware of and edit our automatic responses (or I do, at least).
