I’m an automatic apologizer, too. So I get it!
Also, I feel like the automatic apology is, in essence, worthless. Saying “thank you”, instead, feels like you’re acknowledging not just your shortcomings, but the time/grace/patience the other person is showing you. It feels more vulnerable to me.
And yes, it definitely takes intentionality. It doesn’t come naturally to me, either.
