Don’t Have All the Answers? Do This to Gain Clarity.
One small shift in mindset can make the greatest difference.
I’ve been active on Medium for about a year now, but I’ve been writing all my life.
What I love most about putting my words out into the universe is the community I’ve developed and feedback I receive. Continuing the conversation with my readers in the comments or over email always deepens my passion for a subject.
I’ve noticed something lately, though, and I’d like to set the record straight.
Oftentimes, a commenter will say something along the lines of this: “I loved this story and so admire your wisdom here! I hope to get to this point in my journey eventually, too.”
The reader concludes, because I’ve written about a topic, I must have all the answers. Because I’ve written a coherent piece, I know all there is to know about the matter at hand.
Come What May
Let me snuff out any preconceptions here and give you some straightforward advice for changing how you write:
I don’t write about productivity, creativity and writing because I have it all figured out. I write about these things specifically TO figure them out.
